When I was teaching plein-air at the zoo, one of my students took some incredible photographs that captured the vibrant plumage, agile necks, and stilt-like legs of the pink flamingos at the San Diego Zoo. I used these photographs as source material for this painting. In watercolor it’s a challenge to get a dark, fully saturated background.
